Going to the Nongs
36.5km · 966m of climbing · filmed by Vieta Veteran
Some of Melbourne's most challenging riding is up in the Dandenong Ranges, and this is a small taste of it. We start with the biggest climb of the day, the 1 in 20, a long, steady haul from The Basin up to Sassafras.
From there we head through the forest beside the Dandenong Ranges National Park, past the Alfred Nicholas Memorial Gardens to Kallista. Then we drop through The Patch towards Emerald and turn for home.
The sting comes on the way back. Through The Patch again the climbs kick up to 11%, and Sherbrooke Road is the steepest of all, touching 12%, before we finish in Sassafras.
